No Worries - I'll Just Take the Meds for Yeast Infection in Man

Coping with yeast infection in man is not so easy, either. There is a lot of controversey about what to use, some doctors favoring topical preparations and others prescribing systemic drugs that have the potential for severe side effects. Also, sometimes the symptoms aren't very noticeable for a while or the sufferer wants to tough it out and ignores them and doesn't seek help until it has become a severe yeast infection. At that point, there are no sure cures. Killing complicated organisms like yeasts and not harming our own cells is a big challenge for the pharmaceutical armamentarium that is not always met.

There's an old saying about how an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. But with these yeast infections there can come a time when there may not be any weight of cure heavy enough of to make up for the missed ounce of prevention. There can be a point of no return.

Still Think Yeast Infection in Man Is Highly Unlikely?

You would think this have men shouting from the housetops about the need for yeast infection prevention, but guys like to think they can play the odds, right? I mean, really, of all the guys in the world to inflict itself on, why would that Candida fungus pick you for its happy breeding ground? Well, if you know odds, you know there actually is a short end of the stick. Most people don't win the lottery, but somebody does. And the short end of the stick isn't that short with Candida.

A recent study in London found that the penises of about 16% of men are already colonized with Candida just waiting for the right circumstances to cause symptoms. It's also an STD so there's always a chance of acquiring it from your partner. Did you know that at least 75% of the population is infected with these yeasts at one time or another? It just needs the right circumstances to cause a full blown set of symptoms. The sad thing about having this "not me" cavalier attitude is that then you are totally unprepared when the bad thing happens.

Yeast Infection in Man: Are You Playing with Fire?

If you're a guy, I bet you're thinking, "Where's the fire? What's he talking about, yeast infection in man? No way. That's for women!" Well, actually, "Way!" The yeasts don't really take much notice of your gender and, if conditions are right, men can indeed suffer from Candida yeast infection symptom. Any moist surface that's not too acidic, preferably in a person whose immune system is down a bit or is taking antibiotics, is a pretty good breeding ground, regardless of the person's gender.

One of the problems with yeast infection in man is that there is not a large selection of products that have been developed to cure the uniquely male infection. Since vaginal yeast infections are fairly common, the drug store shelves are full of potions for them. But the relatively less common penile yeast infection has yet to spur the drug manufacturers to develop compounds specifically for his problem. So that means the guy who has one of these infections has to settle for something that might or might not work for him and, with a little bad luck, the wrong compound could encourage a most unpleasant recurring yeast infection.
